VIA 57 WEST- Best Tall Building Winner!

August 5, 2016

As the Americas winner, VIA 57 WEST will now be judged (as one of the four regional winners) for the overall “2016 Best Tall Building Worldwide” award. This judging will take place immediately following presentations to be given by the project client and main design architect for each regional winner at the Awards Symposium, which will take place in Chicago on Thursday November 3, 2016 and is typically attended by 500+ people.

VDA provided consulting services for the design through construction of all vertical transportation systems at this 35-story residential building. From preemptive Traffic Studies to installations VDA was present through every stage of the design process. The scope of work included four (4) high-rise elevators in the main entrance, two (2) mid-rise elevators in the Northern Tower and three (3) low-rise elevators in the Southern Tower as well as one (1) amenity elevator, one (1) trash elevator, and one (1) parking elevator. The main four (4) car group is using destination dispatching technology.

“VIA 57 WEST, accomplishes the ambitious goal of forging an entirely new high-rise typology. Coined by the architect as a “courtscraper,” the tower is a hybrid between the European perimeter block and the traditional Manhattan high-rise, while combining the advantages of both. It has the compactness, density, and intimacy of a classic courtyard building with the grandeur, airiness, and expansive views of a skyscraper. The building offers a unique vision for the future of the tall building; one that manages to synthesize high-quality and visually appealing architecture with the needs of the client, all without sacrificing environmental performance or residential quality” (CTBUH).
