State of Michigan Capitol Building

VDA initially performed a Quality Control Evaluation and study for the client to secure funding for the modernization at this location. Upon successfully completing our study and securing of funding we were selected to provide design services for the Modernization/replacement of three (3) elevators within the State House complex. Most of the elevators dated back to the 1940’s when the original elevators (which dated back to early 1900’s) were replaced. While only retaining the main guide rails, counterweight guide rails, counterweight frame, and entrance frames, VDA completely modernized the existing elevators in phases to eliminate disruption in the day to day operation of the government.

In addition, special attention was given the finishes to emphasize the significance of the building and its historic classification. We utilized custom antique style fixture face-plates with bronze finishes and paneled wood cab walls with stone and marble. We also assisted with the design of a vertical platform lift to fit within the existing design of this historic building.
