The Culture Shed at Hudson Yards
Designed by lead Architect Diller Scofidio + Renfro. This new multi-use cultural facility is located in The Bloomberg Building attached to the base of 15 Hudson Yards. Intended to be a multi-use facility, The Shed contains two levels of exhibition space and a 500 seat theater to be used for art installations, events and large-scale performances. Other than the striking facade of The Shed, another element that makes this building unique is its retractable shell which allows the ability for the space to expand and contract based on the event. With the shell fully retracted, the plaza transforms into an outdoor space that can be accessed by the public.
VDA was brought onto the project to provide consulting services from the Schematic Design phase through the most recent punch out of the eight (8) escalators and four (4) elevators that serve the new building.
