Consulting Corner: Embedded Expertise on a Landmark Project

When one of the nation’s leading energy organizations embarked on a large-scale modernization involving more than 70 elevator units, they needed more than just technical expertise—they needed a trusted partner. They turned to VDA for expert guidance. 

At the heart of this initiative is Bruce Barbre, VDA’s Regional Vice President for the Southern Region. With a proven track record managing some of Texas’s most complex modernization and construction oversight projects, Bruce was the clear choice. His hands-on leadership and ability to bring structure to multi-phase efforts helped shape the partnership from day one. 

What began as a limited consulting scope of work—, focused on periodic site visits and shop drawing reviews—quickly evolved under Bruce’s direction. Recognizing the need for more robust oversight, the client expanded VDA’s role into a full-time, on-site partnership, embedding the team directly within their facilities department. This move enables daily coordination among the elevator contractor, another consulting firm, and the client’s internal stakeholders. 

Working closely with Area Manager Jake Seibert and Project Manager Kris Haller, Bruce and the team established a framework built on proactive communication, shared accountability, and client trust. 

“Our clients often don’t know what they don’t know,” Bruce shared. “By being on-site every day, we’re able to protect their interests, keep the project on track, and everyone aligned. It’s about delivering confidence at every level.”
