New York, NY

This $19 million, comprehensive urban renovation project unites the street-level lobbies of four adjacent pre-1917 buildings at 66, 68 and 70 Fifth Avenue and 2 West 13th Street to create a 32,800 sq. ft. “urban quad” known as the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons, The New School for Design.

As part of the project, VDA performed a feasibility study, and then provided services for the modernization of two (2) existing automatic passenger elevators at 2 West 13th Street and modernization and conversion to automatic operation of one (1) existing manual freight elevator at 70 Fifth Avenue. There is also a new elevator enclosure constructed of aluminum mesh that features a digital countdown clock that identifies the time remaining before the beginning of the school's next 3-hour academic period.
