This new 65,876 sq. ft. facility, made up of a steel and glass atrium and five separate pavilions, serves as the center of cultural life for both the university and the Raleigh/Durham communities.

The building's pavilions house three large gallery spaces, a 173-seat auditorium, museum shop, classrooms, administrative offices and a cafe.

VDA provided full consulting services through construction administration for 2 3-stop elevators in the facility: there is an oversized, geared freight elevator to transport display pieces, and a hydraulic passenger elevator that was designed with provision for a future fourth stop. The $23 million facility opened on October 2, 2005.
