Completion of the core and shell of this new 590 foot tall office building at 30 St Mary Axe was in 4Q of 2003, but fit-out continued into 2004. Swiss Re occupies floors 2-15 as their headquarters; the remaining space in this 40-story, 500,000 sf building is by a variety of tenants.

Considered the first environmentally-progressive tall building in London, the circular plan of the building widens as it rises from the ground and then tapers towards its apex, partly as a design response to the relatively small site, and partly in order to deflect wind and help maintain pedestrian comfort and safety at the base of the building.
