Before joining VDA, from 1979 to 1985, Larry Scharfe worked general commercial and residential construction with positions as carpenter through construction superintendent for onsite and offsite projects. Project types include wood frame apartment and concrete tilt up and steel frame office buildings.
In 1985, he was hired by Westinghouse Elevator in Burbank California as a construction superintendent.
Mr. Scharfe was transferred to San Francisco, CA in 1986 as construction superintendent for installation of hydraulic elevators, low rise traction elevators, and escalators.
Following the purchase of Westinghouse Elevator by Schindler Elevator, Mr. Scharfe worked as a repair and service superintendent and spent 20 years as a local NEIP Chairman and Co-Chairman for both Westinghouse Elevator and Schindler Elevator.
In 2007, Mr. Scharfe joined Hesselberg Keesee & Associates in San Francisco. His duties included all phases of vertical transportation consulting including project management for new equipment and existing equipment along with due diligence and maintenance examinations for evaluations of existing equipment.
Larry Scharfe joined VDA in 2012 where he maintained similar duties and became a member of the VDA Destination Dispatch Focus Team.
