John A. Van Deusen has devoted his professional life to the design, installation and evaluation of vertical transportation systems. He graduated with a degree in Industrial Management from Lehigh University, followed by postgraduate work at George Washington University.
His 18 years of professional experience, prior to establishing Van Deusen & Associates in late 1980, included: Application Engineer for Westinghouse Elevator Company, Senior Associate and Department Head of Building Transportation Systems for Joseph R. Loring and Associates, and Director of Technical Sales for Millar Elevator Industries, Inc.
Mr. Van Deusen has written about vertical transportation systems in ELEVATOR WORLD and has been a contributing editor to the fifth, sixth, seventh and eight editions of MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT FOR BUILDINGS, as well as a contributor to BUILDING TYPE BASICS FOR OFFICE BUILDINGS. He has lectured on vertical transportation at Columbia University, New York University, Drexel University, NJIT, University of Wisconsin, Princeton University and Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
He has participated in several industry organizations including the National Association of Elevator Contractors, the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities, the National Association of Vertical Transportation Professionals and Building Owners and Managers Association as Chairman of the Professional Membership.
Mr. Van Deusen is a certified BOCA and New York City Elevator Inspector.
He currently resides in New York, NY.
