Comer Children's Hospital, U of Chicago Hospitals
Chicago, IL

The new Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago Medical Center provides an ultra-modern yet child-friendly setting for all inpatient children's health services. Many of the unusual components are the result of input from the Kids' Advisory Board, a group of current and former patients who provided the design team with the child's perspective on a hospital stay.

The building, completed in June 2005, is a 242,000 sq. ft., 155-bed, 7-story facility that will more than double the size of the existing facility one block away. The project was made possible, in part, by a gift of $21 million from Gary C. and Frances Comer. Mr. Comer founded Lands' End.

VDA provided full consulting services through construction administration for 2 in-ground hydraulic service elevators 1 geared traction service elevator, and 5 geared traction passenger elevators.
